Our Lenten Journey

Altar during Lent.
Stations of the Cross.
Lent is a big deal at The Church of the Good Shepherd – a holy season of preparation for the Resurrection, to be marked, we are told in The Book of Common Prayer, “by self-examination and repentance; by prayer, fasting, and self-denial; and by reading and meditating on God’s holy Word.”

To help us focus on the journey toward Easter, we present several special programs, and make several changes to our usual way of doing things. Among the big changes: We observe Holy Silence for Mass, beginning when we walk into the church and continuing until we leave after the benediction. And we use Rite 1 for the 10:30 Mass.

If you go to the “Why Do We Do That?” page on our website, you’ll find explanations of a lot of the special things we do during Lent.

You can also find a list of local ministries that need help to do the work of Christ, in case you would like to add a service component to your Lenten discipline.
