The Rosary: The Glorious Mysteries

Lessons and Collects for the Glorious Mysteries of the Holy Rosary

The First Glorious Mystery: The Resurrection of Our Lord
The Lesson: When the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, brought spices, so that they might go and annoint him. And very early on the first day of the week, they went to the tomb when the sun had risen. And they were saying to one another, "Who will roll away the stone for us from the door of the tomb?" And looking up they saw the stone was rolled back; for it was very large. And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe; and they were amazed. And he said to them, "Do not be amazed; you seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen, he is not here; see the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him, as he told you. (Mark 16: 1-7)
The Collect: O God, who by the glorious resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ destroyed death and brought life and immortality to light: Grant that we, who have been raised with him, may abide in his presence and rejoice in the hope of eternal glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom with you and the Holy Spirit, be dominion and praise for ever and ever. Amen. (BCP page 223)
Our Father, ... Hail Mary, ... (10 times) Glory be to the Father ...

The Second Glorious Mystery: The Ascension of Our Lord
The Lesson: When they had come together, they asked him, "Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?" He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has fixed by his own authority. But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth." And when he had said this, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, and said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven." (Acts 6:1-11 )
The Collect: Almighty God, whose blessed Son our Savior Jesus Christ ascended far above the heavens that he might fill all things: Mercifully give us faith to perceive that, according to his promise, he abides with his Church on earth, even to the end of the ages; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen (BCP page 226)
Our Father, ... Hail Mary, ... (10 times) Glory be to the Father ...

The Third Glorious Mystery: The Coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost
The Lesson: When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly a sound came from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind, and it filled the house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire, distributed and resting on each of them. And they were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. (Acts 2:1-4 )
The Collect: O God, who taught the hearts of your faithful people by sending to them the light of your Holy Spirit: Grant us by the same Spirit to have a right judgement in all things, and evermore to rejoice in his holy comfort; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen. (BCP page 227)
Our Father, ... Hail Mary, ... (10 times) Glory be to the Father ...

The Fourth Glorious Mystery: The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
"My soul magnifies the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for he has regarded the low estate of his handmaiden.
For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed;
for he who is mighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his name.
And his mercy is on those who fear him
from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with his arm,
he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts,
he has put down the mighty from their thrones,
and exalted those of low degree;
he has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent empty away.
He has helped his servant Israel,
in remembrance of his mercy,
as he spoke to our fathers,
to Abraham and to his posterity forever." (Luke 1:46-55)
The Collect: O God, you have taken to yourself the blessed Virgin Mary, mother of your incarnate Son: Grant that we who have been redeemed by his blood may share with her the glory of your eternal kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. (BCP page 243)
Our Father, ... Hail Mary, ... (10 times) Glory be to the Father ...

The Fifth Glorious Mystery: The Coronation of Our Lady
The Lesson: A great portent appeared in heaven, a woman clothed with with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who loved his appearing. (Rev. 12:1; 2 Tim. 4:8)
The Collect: O God, who by the fruitful virginity of Blessed Mary has bestowed upon mankind the reward of eternal salvation, grant we beseech you, that we may know the help of her intercession, through whom we have been accounted worthy to receive the Author of our life, Jesus Christ your Son, our Lord. Amen.
Our Father, ... Hail Mary, ... (10 times) Glory be to the Father ...

The Commendation
Remembering our most holy, most pure, most blessed and glorious Lady, the Mother of God and Ever-Virgin Mary with all the Saints, let us commend ourselves and one another, and our whole life to Christ our God.

Optional Concluding Prayers:
Salve Regina: Hail, Holy Queen, mother of mercy; hail, our life, our sweetness and our hope! To you do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To you do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate your eyes of mercy toward us; and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
 O clement,
  O loving,
   O sweet
    Virgin Mary:
V/ Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God
R/ That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Memorare (A prayer of St. Bernard of Clairvaux): Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help or sought your intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my mother. To you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful, O mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen.
